絲綢，即蠶絲的織品。是大自然賦予人類的最珍貴的服飾材料。
Silk cloth is cloth made from silk. It is the most valuable clothing material that nature gives to humans.
據考古學發現推測，在距今五六千年前的新石器中期，我們的祖先便開始了養蠶、取絲、織綢了。自古以來，古代中國作為世界絲綢生產和貿易的中心和擴散源，代表著世界絲綢生產的最高水平和最高成就。
Based on archaeological findings, experts made estimates that ever since the middle of Neolithic Age, which is five or six thousand years ago, our ancestors began to raise silkworms, obtain silk and weave silk fabric. Ancient China, which was long regarded as the center and diffusion source of world silk cloth production and trade, represented the highest level and achievement of silk cloth production in the world.
絲綢的發明，豐富了人類社會物質生活和精神生活，是人類文明史上的一件大事，也是中華民族對世界文化作出的巨大貢獻。絲綢貿易推動了中原和邊疆、中國和世界的經濟、文化交流，形成了著名的"絲綢之路"。這條古道從長安出發，經甘肅、新疆一直西去，經過中亞、西亞，抵達歐洲，架起了中西方文化交流的橋梁。
The invention of silk cloth enriched the material life and spiritual life of humans. It was a significant event in the civilization history of mankind as well as a great contribution to the world made by the Chinese people. Silk cloth trade promoted the economic and cultural exchange between the central plains areas and border areas of China as well as between China and the world. Thus the world-famous “Silk Road” came into being. This ancient road began in Chang’an and headed westwards via Gansu and Xinjiang. It led to Europe via Central Asia and Western Asia and became the bridge for cultural communication between China and the West.
